BREAKING: Utah Police Department Launches Investigation Following EPD Bodycam Footage Release, Officer Identified by DSM

The Grantsville City Police Department in Utah has launched an investigation following the resignation of former Eugene Police Officer Martin Siller after his use of racist and derogatory speech on bodycam footage was released by documentarian Tim Lewis a few days prior.

On the morning of May 12, Double Sided Media contacted Chief Robert Sager of GPD with the information that we believed we had identified the officer on the other end of Siller’s phone conversation using clues found within the conversation, including nicknames of spouses.

DSM directly asked Chief Sager if he could confirm or deny that the officer was Garrett Freir, who joined the GPD in 2025 after 20 years at West Valley City Police Department — notably the same department and tenure as Siller. The name “Garrett” is said multiple times by Siller in the video.

In response, Chief Sager referred DSM to a press release posted to Facebook:

“Within the last twenty-four hours, the Grantsville Police Department has confirmed that a current officer within our department was involved in a conversation with for Eugene Police Officer, Martin Siller. Following this confirming, an internal investigation has been opened into the matter.”

This is an ongoing story.
